SkySearch for Pets — a program of AWAR

Helping bring lost pets home

Animal Welfare Aerial Response (AWAR) is a nonprofit volunteer organization that assists communities in locating lost pets using coordinated aerial and ground search methods.

All missions are subject to safety, weather, legal access, and volunteer availability.

Before you contact us

  • Have a clear recent photo of your pet ready.
  • Know the last known location and time last seen.
  • Tell us whether your pet is friendly, skittish, or fearful.
  • Do not chase a frightened animal.

How our search process works

1

Report

Submit a lost pet report with the last known location, recent sightings, and a photo.

2

Evaluate

We review behavior, terrain, weather, airspace, and whether a search can be safely conducted.

3

Search

AWAR uses systematic aerial and ground search methods to scan likely hiding areas and travel corridors.

4

Follow Up

We document the mission and communicate results and next steps with the owner.

Why drone search helps

Drone searches can help locate animals in areas that are difficult to search on foot, especially along wooded edges, fields, brush lines, and travel corridors.

  • Faster coverage of large terrain
  • Safer observation over difficult ground
  • Systematic grid and perimeter search patterns
  • Thermal imaging when conditions allow

Mission

AWAR exists to support animal welfare and community safety by assisting in the search for lost domestic animals through responsible aerial and ground search operations.

Important note

Drone flights are conducted only where legally permitted and where operations can be performed safely and responsibly.
